salieri101 Posted August 21, 2009 Share #1 Posted August 21, 2009 I heard or read sumwhere that one of the BVE versions or OPENBVE (I dunno which) is open-source. I thought that open-source means that anyone can freely modify any models or routes or anything in it if he/she knows how to. Now if this is true (no matter which version of BVE is open-source) then i don't understand why ppl stick so hard to copyright things about their creations in any BVE version. Can anyone explain this here?
Amtrak7 Posted August 21, 2009 Share #2 Posted August 21, 2009 openBVE is open source. The source code is released on the website. If one knows C#, they can modify the source code of openBVE and release it without permission. However, this only applies to the program itself. Routes are under their creator's terms. Y2Julio Posted August 21, 2009 Share #3 Posted August 21, 2009 Only the program itself is open source, anyone can freely modify the program. Train models, routes, skins, textures are NOT open source and belong to the individuals that create them.
