styckx Posted August 31, 2009 Share #1 Posted August 31, 2009 God only knows how long it's been there and I never saw it. Snapped this at the Pennsylvania RailRoad museum. Looked out the window of the employee doors along the back and saw this thing. I had to do a double take to see if they were really pantographs, but indeed they are. They must reach REALLY high. It looks like those ore gantry cranes were dismantled, and 2 were scrapped, somehow that little switcher survived. I believe it may have been the only one, but there is evidence due to the large capacity of that facility that there may have been as many as 3. They would move the ore cars under the gantry for filling, then move them each time they were filled, then move them to hook to a diesel that would take them on the main line to wherever. Apparently both the PRR shark nose diesel and this fellow saw quite a bit of each other.
