LRG Posted September 5, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 5, 2009 It's still there! Sorry I couldn't catch the car number but it seems as if it hasn't been touch, looking at the photo of the car at nycsubway.org: The photo was taken on the day of the Arnine fan trip last month. EE Broadway Local Posted September 11, 2009 Share #8 Posted September 11, 2009 In its' final years R12s ran on the 70(8) Third Avenue El. They replaced the 1939-1940 World Fair Lo V's on this line around 1970. The station at Webster Avenue/Gun Hill Road was 210th Street-Williamsbridge and this was a good place to watch the R12s. Rather than displaying 8, the cars simply read SHUTTLE on the first and last cars.
Art Vandelay Posted September 14, 2009 Share #9 Posted September 14, 2009 The car was retired in the 70s, renumbered 5872, and kept with R14 5871. They were used as Fire Training cars until being replaced by R30As 8392 and 8401 in 1993. After that they were moved around a bit, spending most of the first half of this decade at 239th shops near the R110As. the two cars are part of the unrestored museum fleet.
