Getting ready to go around the city hall loop, the T/O was very nice, when he came out to check the car, I asked him if I could stay on for the loop and he said yes and was very friendly about it.

yea, I just walked up the stairs from Herald Square and there it was, the PATH trains. They really need to connect Herald Square to Penn Station again.

Talk to Vornado. They own the whole block now, that the old passage is under. The new JC Penney is open, adjacent to it, and it would be good for them to be connected to the Penn Concourse.

If they're supposed to do some major construction on the Hotel Pennsylvania, then the passage (the sidewalk vaults) would probably be apart of the construction area, but I don't know what's going on with that now. I wrote Vornado a long time ago (when they first bought the whole block), but did not get any response. There's no reason they couldn't maintain the passage, like other privately owned ones in midtown.

The last post led me to do an update of my page on the passageway: http://www.erictb.info/33passage.html

I discovered when I moved from members.aol, I never brought over the images! I had to get them off of an old computer.

What I found is that the passage is in fact planned to be rehabilitated and reopened!

Surprised no one else here heard about this and announced it, though I see now it was discussed on Subchat .

Hey Eric, so where was my photo in relation to the closed passage, I recall walking up a stairs, looking to the left I saw the Path terminal then I went up another stairs to get out to the street

From your photo (Looking straight into the PATH terminal), it would be behind you to the right. Like 135° (diagonally) off your right shoulder. Across from the other end of the formerly open space the newstand took up. You can see it on the map on my site, and now I've added another map from the developer.
