Fresh Pond Posted September 22, 2009 Share #51 Posted September 22, 2009 I thought Artics could make all the same turns a normal bus can make, if not more. I remember seeing an Artic make a left turn, from leftmost lane to leftmost lane. The turn didn't seem to be very wide either. Of course this is just what I'm stating from personal experience. Left turns aren't as sharp as right turns
DOB2RTO Posted September 22, 2009 Share #52 Posted September 22, 2009 1. Arctics can make the same turns 40fters can......... 2. Make sure you specify which artics. Are you speaking of pushers (rear engine mount, with non turnable rear wheels), or pullers (tractor trailer type, with underfloor front engine mount, and turnable rear wheels). The pushers have to be driven like a 40fter. The pullers can be driven like a 35fter, cause the rear wheels turn the opposite causing the rear to swing out........ 3. All KB routes can use the artics they currently have, but if I ran MTA, that depot would go 100% Van-Hool AG300, so it eliminates the can they always make the turn part. Pushers do have a shorter turning radius, than pusher type artic. KB could be redone to handle those type of buses for maintenance. That just me though, blowing air out my orifices....... FamousNYLover Posted September 22, 2009 Share #53 Posted September 22, 2009 When I was on Nabi NG on W1C 242nd St Subway, NG showed up on Bx9 at 263rd St, so I decided to get off at Mosholu Parkway and wait for Bx9 Marble Hills.
R10 2952 Posted September 22, 2009 Share #54 Posted September 22, 2009 Well, I hope that they don't invade the Bx10 and Bx20 just yet, just like the Orion V's kicked the RTS's of those lines. I think the O5s and O6s, are okay, but to me, the O7 (NG) just wouldn't fit in with the scenery of Riverdale (where I live). To me, a loud, old, smoky Ikarus 260 would blend into the Riverdale surroundings better than an O7. I think the Orion VII looks great, even fantastic in other areas where it runs, such as Brooklyn or Queens, but the Bronx? I don't know... Since we're talking about the (MTA)'s artics, I guess they would fall under pushers. But it would be nice if they had turnable rear wheels, just like on the MCI's

Q43 Floral Park Posted September 23, 2009 Share #60 Posted September 23, 2009 And I forgot to mention high-floored, haha B) lol I can't count the number of times I've been late to school on the Bx10 because it was an old lady vs an old high foor trying to kneel. Nothing was better than the kneeler on a 8800 getting stuck and causing a bus breakdown at 7 am

Nothing was better than the kneeler on a 8800 getting stuck and causing a bus breakdown at 7 am Having to shut those things off, then turn them back on just to reset the kneeler. That sucked......... Give them time, they'll be electric dawgs. Nah, KB knows how to maintain their buses. It was hard for them, cause they had everyone's else unmaintained buses dumped on them............. It was hard for them, cause they had everyone's else unmaintained buses dumped on them............. Didn't they get the 9600s when those were new? I heard* that they weren't 'too good' when they were eventually sent to Flatbush. *a while ago, so i could be wrong.

I will admit FP got screwed with KB's 8800s (they used to drop out like flies and you could here one breaking from at least 3 blocks away). As for the NGs at KB they'll be fine if all the pre1999 O5s leave.
trainfan22 Posted September 26, 2009 Share #66 Posted September 26, 2009 here one breaking from at least 3 blocks away) That is the most annoying thing about RTS buses is the brakes on those buses make a lotta noise! I never been on an MTS RTS but I hope they redesigned the braking system so that it doesn't squeal as much.

I Run Trains Posted September 26, 2009 Share #68 Posted September 26, 2009 I see it happening on everyone but the Bx41 unless theres a severe bus issue at the depot. 40 footers are extremely rare on that route.
I Run Trains Posted September 26, 2009 Share #69 Posted September 26, 2009 Bx10/20 doesnt run on Artics.. Ive also seen Bx12 making such a wide turn over at Pelham bay and Burr ave and thats a single street where i work in riverdale, artics have popped up on both 10 and

I drove both 9667, and 9668, and I loved those buses. Modern inside, bright, powerful as hell, didn't have switches on my right, under some barrier where you didn't know, which switch was which switch (say that 3X fast).......... I was mad as hell when I didn't get those buses, and even madder when they were sent to Flatbush. They were 1999 models (IIRC). KB didn't get them new. I was there in March of 2006, and those buses came in a few months later. KB needs more artics. I know you all love to see those Hybrids on the 60ft lines, but they really do need more artics badly............

That is why on the sheets in the depot, it states "articulated lines, must only use articulated buses". They do not suppose to put 40fters on those lines, and suppose to have enough artics to cover all artic runs. If they don't, that reflects on a lack of maintenance on those buses, at those depots..........
