Harry Posted September 26, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 26, 2009 A congressional report card gives the MTA a B-minus for its Second Ave. subway project - and warns completion could be delayed yet again. Construction has created thousands of jobs, but managers have been unable to stick to a schedule or budget, the report being released today by Rep. Carolyn Maloney states. MTA Inspector General Barry Kluger, meanwhile, is conducting his own "all encompassing" review of the delays and cost overruns, the Daily News has learned. "Up until now, the project has been marred by missed deadlines, cost overruns and a harsh impact on local businesses," the Maloney report states. The MTA should have been able to avert some delays by identifying problems in advance, such as the need to shore up buildings above where it is blasting and tunneling, the report states. R44 5278 Posted September 26, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 26, 2009 That's what happens when the T/A diverts important money into extra stuff during a recession. And now the T/A even wants security cameras in their many thousand subway cars? This has to stop...
SubwayGuy Posted September 26, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 26, 2009 The Second Avenue Subway hardly counts as "extra stuff" - it is incredibly necessary and has been for the past 50 years since the destruction of the Third Avenue El in Manhattan. They NEED to find a way to get this done, even if only Phase I gets done, AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. The problem is they are not holding the contractors accountable. EE Broadway Local Posted September 30, 2009 Share #13 Posted September 30, 2009 Holy cow! Possibly 2018 now just for Phase I? Under a similiar schedule: Phase II: 2027; Phase III: 2036 and finally Phase IV: 2045.
