CSX on Arthur Kill lift bridge

Recommended Posts

The best thing they did was fix that bridge for the trains. Reduced truck traffic on the Goethals.

Something like 500 truck trips a week are avoided because of that bridge.

Very smart to reopen the AK; I cant quote any figures, but I'd venture a guess that 500 truck trips being eliminated weekly might be a little low; besides having rail service to Howland Hook Terminal, there is a spur to Fresh Kills to load compacted trash for shipment out of state.

Forward thinking!

I wasn't counting the trash trains actually! I don't think you could really truck that volume of trash, kinda impractical aside via train, so i only count the container/trailer trains, since those are, container for container taking one truck per container off the automobile bridge.
