mark1447 685 Posted October 19, 2009 Share #2 Posted October 19, 2009 cool catch, these are old... I wonder why the t/a requested passangers to move forward for safety? Crime issues in the 80s?
BroadwayBuffer 40 Posted October 21, 2009 Share #3 Posted October 21, 2009 Crime ... safety and numbers and the area was likely in view of the token clerk. Not to mention the TA ran short trains on certain lines back then which stopped at the centre of the platform. If I'm not mistaken, very few lines run short trains at night anymore. Even the Shuttle which formerly did now runs full 600 ft trains at all times. On some lines, short trains are actually good at night since it forces people to congregate in one area as opposed to full trains where certain cars can be empty or have one or two people in them. Obviously on 75 ft cars, you're stuck in the event of a situation.
LRG 217 Posted October 21, 2009 Share #4 Posted October 21, 2009 Nice catches. Exactly where did you find these? And to the poster who said that the trains should be shorter at night, I agree 100%. It is a huge safety issue and people don't have to wander between cars forever because they're in a sticky situation. Not to mention, the problem with the 75% cars is that they're locked, so you're basically trapped in case something goes wrong.

AA 8th Avenue 1 Posted November 3, 2009 Share #8 Posted November 3, 2009 Anyone remember the four car trains? Or even farther back in the day the two car (AA) trains late nights? There was so much crime and ???? stuff going on back then that they had to run shorter trains. People were scared to ride the train after dark. Most people you knew would travel between 14th and 96th sts if they were bold enough to venture out. Alot has changed. Only the runs four car trains. Also Rockaway Pk Shuttle usually runs 4, Franklin Shuttle runs 2.
