beelinefan 44 Posted February 15, 2017 Share #602 Posted February 15, 2017 Anyone know when the M-2’s are officially getting canned? When the extra m8s arrive in three years.
Mysterious2train 587 Posted December 6, 2020 Share #603 Posted December 6, 2020 Something that apparently slipped under the radar: John Longobardi, Chief Transportation Officer at Metro-North, told the Connecticut Commuter Rail Council at their October meeting that the supplemental 60-car order of M-8s had started arriving, but hadn't started testing yet (almost a year late, since the order was approved in November 2016 and was expected to start arriving after three years, but obviously the least of Metro-North and Shore Line East's problems this past year). M-8 tests in Shore Line East territory are progressing as well, as they have been for some five years now?

Glad the MBTA's trying to get the ball rolling on electrification again. 2-3 years ago I remember being stuck in a crowded first car behind an F40PH that had a badly-calibrated fuel pump; the smell and sight of blue, unburned fuel exhaust was nauseating. Hell, there's been some days that Back Bay Station during rush hour smells like a crude-oil fire. Lawrence St 1,609 Posted July 3, 2021 Share #606 Posted July 3, 2021 So these M8's will potentially run along the entire NEC? Wow!

It'd be neat, though I hope for their sake that MBTA takes advantage of the alternative compliance rules that have since come into effect at FRA and buy some European off-the-shelf units not built like tanks. M8s are very heavy compared to their continental counterparts.

I don't think the extra M8s have even been delivered yet. With the M8s they have they don't have enough to cover both Metro North service and SLE service, those extra M8s are needed.

From what I understand, yes. Did some digging and some of the extra M8s have been delivered but they aren't in service yet.
