New York Deposits on Bottled Water Take Effect Oct. 31

The deposit shouldn't be charged under the tax section of the receipt (right below subtotal), it should be a separate "item" listed right under the the item itself. For example, you might see the following:

PEPSI 2LTR..........1.99SODA DEPOSIT LINK...0.05

Just a warning to those who use the Poland Spring "Aquapod" bottles:

I tried redeeming those bottles for deposits. Many of them got rejected, but eventually managed to work. If yours rejects, try them at a different orientation, or insert them at a different angle. The other bottle shapes appear to have no problem.

I guess this did not raise the price on bottled drinking water.....I just bought a 24 pack Poland Spring.......Walmart 3.99!!! B)

It won't raise the price, it will simply appear on your receipt as a separate line item (as already pointed out by other users).

Duane Reade seems to put a little sticker imprinted with "NY 5c" on the bottle-tops.
