Will-Bx-718 Posted March 19, 2011 Share #101 Posted March 19, 2011 Oh and my mistake there are 468 stations in the system not 417, but you get the point already about how many S/A's they need employed.
Xentor Posted March 19, 2011 Share #102 Posted March 19, 2011 Well today alone I used 3 subway stations and all three had an empty subway booth, granted they arent the busiest ones, but that isnt the point is it? Lets not get silly now, transit WANTS to eliminate these positions and they will keep trying. Lets just hope common sence prevails, I certainly wouldnt want to walk into a subway station in the middle of the night and find a chain gang waiting to mug me out of my 10 bux and credit card. And thats only one of the problems associated with not having station agents. Did I mention the booths were all defaced and looked like they hadnt been manned in years? You may have walk into the area of the station that was not manned, or the person may have went to the bathroom. There is a minimum of 1 agent per station with some having agents manning part time booths as well. Transit already tried that game and lost and this is why they are reinstating laid off agents back to duty
Xentor Posted March 19, 2011 Share #104 Posted March 19, 2011 No. I know these stations quite well and I frequent them enough and they all feature unmanned subway booths. Im not disagreeing with you here, but I kbow what I see and what im telling you. They are empty and I suspect there may be others as well. And I know the SA's arent hiding out or anything because its not like you can even see through the windows as they are so dirty. They just arent there. Im guessing they will be assigned a SA anytime now.

Every station has a 24/7 booth on it. What stations are these that you are using and I can see if I can guide you to the 24 hour manned booth. If the station has both a north and south bound plat that are separated then the agent could be on the other plat. Or if the station is underground then they would be at the most major street of that station. You can also read the signs, they can point you to the location of the 24 hour booth. Xentor Posted March 19, 2011 Share #110 Posted March 19, 2011 Sorry for hijacking the thread guys, last post. You are right Will. I might have been entering a side of the platform where there is no agent just the empty booth, I didn't pay any attention to the other side. I'm going to take a better look today and try to find the station agent at one of the stations. Congrats to all the people that have been called up so far on 8006, again I'm sorry. Donald Posted March 19, 2011 Share #111 Posted March 19, 2011 I agree with you that you need at least one person at every station 24/7. But the bean counters on Madison Ave. want to eliminate as many jobs as possible. They wanted OPTO, and that is why they put it on the L line in full violation of the union contract. Only an arbitrator ordered condcutors back on the trains. Also, under the current system, every subway station technically does NOT have a S/A. Let me use 116th on the B/C line as an example. On the north bound platofrm, there is no S/A. On the south bound platform there is. However, the north and south platform do not connect through any underpass so it is technically 2 entirely different stations. If there is an emergency, the S/A would have to go upstairs, cross the street, and then come back down. Countless other local statiosn have the same design. I know we are way off topic, so I won't post anymore about S/As in this thread.
sealteam1962 Posted March 20, 2011 Share #112 Posted March 20, 2011 donald i agree with the others you must pay attention to what was said to you.and that is they need a human presence in the ta system 24/7 that is station agent.they are there also for the safety of others people fell safe with them in the booth .there the eyes and ears of the station they work at.they call police,or if you become ill they call the ambulance the metro card machine does not. NYWBRR Posted March 21, 2011 Share #113 Posted March 21, 2011 I arrived early on Fri.the 18th at 6:30 am my report time was 7:30 1st one there. In a short time a few more started to show up as we all waited in the lobby, finally they let us go up to the 5th floor at 7:00. when you get up there you will need to show at the human resource desk your report notice and driver license. They want you to put your phone number on the top of the notice. You will be given a ticket with a number just like the Motor Vehicle offices it,s a first come first serve. You then go across to the back to another area that I remember when I waited to do the BOSS in 2009.That section does not start to 7:30 there are others there for random drugs test and promo position's.We were told to form a line in the middle and as you approach the person behind the counter they take your license and report notice, give you more papers to fill out and get on another line to sign in and then sit down and wait to be called by the ticket number you received when you first arrived. When you are called you hand in the papers you received that came with the pre-interview notice and the papers you just received along with your soc.sec. card and birth cert. You are giving another paper to sign which is the drug test(lab)work papers, they give you your license back and then you are instructed to go over to the test area. When you arrive in the room you must take that paper and have it stamped by a stamp device in front of the glass that you can see the lab and put the paper in a slot so they can call you to test. When you are tested you go into the lab empty your pockets put your jacket and things in a locker and close the locker. The lab person then ask for your soc.sec.card and sign some papers and has you pick a jar puts a mark on it so you know how much they need and assigns you a room to use by yourself. When you are finish you give him the jar and he makes two samples that you sign your initials and check to make sure that the numbers match on the samples match to another paper that you sign and follow him to a medical chest that he has you put the samples in.After all that you are to go back to the front desk that sent you there to sign out and then sign another paper and giving more forms to make out and bring back when you do the medical.I was told I will receive a notice when to come back for medical. It seemed that the ones called in that day where all in the 400 to 450 range.I just wanted to try to give a idea of what to expect and by arriving early you are out early as I was out at 10:00 am and I notice a lot of persons still waiting to be called still with there tickets when I was leaving. I know we are way off topic, so I won't post anymore about S/As in this thread. Ok Donald this will be my last post to you on this thread about this topic. I promise guys I will no longer hijack this thread ever again. Just because there is only a agent on the south or north bound side of the station does not make it two stations literally or technically. In every subway station they have talk back intercoms which enable you to get in contact with the agent on duty. And also even if there was some kind of emergency the S/A wouldn't come to the other platform, as we are not authorized to leave the booth without permission. Only in serious emergencies i.e. explosions, fires, chemical or biological threats or black outs could we leave the booth. And then we are to report to the designated shape up area (emergency location) with the blue prints to the station for the FDNY. Like I've repeated to you many times over is the still needs a minimum of 2500 S/A's employed to run their daily station operations regardless of a metrocard machine or smartcard technologies. Do you know how many times those metrocard machines go down in a 8 hour tour?. There has been times where I called in malfunctioning machines three times in my tour. Tell me how a smartcard would solve that problem it if stops working? who are you going to get assistance from if there is no body there to help you?. Now this response ended up being longer than I intended, but this is that last one to you donald. Please soak in the information I've given you now and before okay?? thanx in advance. Wow!! man you really broke it down lol!. But being there early really doesn't necessarily speed up the process that much. As long all your paper work is order you'll be out of there at a good time. Average time spent at 180 should be just over 3 hours. And besides other people could have been there for other things with different appointment times. If you still seen people at 10am with tickets they were more than likely there for final processing. And they are scheduled to come in @ 10am. The TA does not want to mix the two groups together. As it takes much more work to get pre-employment people outta the way, than final processing. But anyway good luck man, if your urine checks out they will call you in for the medical in about 2 weeks or less. And maybe final processing that same day granted you check out medically. Now I could be wrong on that last statement so some one correct me if I'm wrong.
jmazz77 Posted March 21, 2011 Share #116 Posted March 21, 2011 I was there on Friday too. There were a lot of people there for randoms and their annual or bi-annual physicals.. I was pissed. boxeraf Posted March 24, 2011 Share #118 Posted March 24, 2011 Just a quick check in LIst #348, went down last week for the preinterview and drugscreen. A week has passed and not a word. I'm not worried yet. I'll start worrying next week. My 21 page dossier is filled out and ready to go. I'm awaiting a phone call. I'll start looking elsewhere the end of next week. I don't see why there would be a problem. I've been tested so many time in the past half year i'm so clean I shine.

Supposedly there is a class on the 28th Of March. Do they have class every week while the hiring process continues. I already have my license will my training be diffetrent than the people with permits only? I appreciate all the help this forum provides. NYWBRR Posted March 26, 2011 Share #123 Posted March 26, 2011 Also waiting on drug test results from 3-18-11. The lady said if everything is OK you will be notified by mail of the when to come for medical. I believe one of the papers that gave instructions on what to bring in for the pre-employment said you maybe be required to return to the Employment Center within 3 to 4 weeks. I assume medical because it does not make sense to give a drug test than wait several months to offer someone employment (unless something does not check out and remember the background check ). My experience in the past with employers is in order to start working or training within a week was the result of the drug test. Anyway to all just hang in as this is another hurdle down the long and winding road.
