So what happens if you have high blood pressure? I have it so I don't know what to do. I'm on a very strict diet and losing a good amount of weight, but I don't know if that alone will bring it down. I won't get disqualified over high BP, will I?

Ive called the DCAS hotline I'd say around 15 times (3 times this month) during their claimed office hours for a couple of years and FINALLY I actually got through and spoke with someone. This particular person didn't seem angry at life, work, family and society in general and happily referred me to some sort of specialist I guess who reiterated what I already knew from previous posts up above, that the promotional list for Conductor will end later this month and that a class, get this, a class is actually scheduled for June off the O/C list.

Now I know those people will tell you just about anything to get you off the phone and at times they don't seem to be as interconnected as one might assume, but word coming from the DCAS camp closely mimics what Alex L said and in fact even confirms this. I'd be surprised if there wasn't a cancellation or a several months long delay for this first O/C class.

I am not at all doubting Alex since he is a relaible source, but how are they going to have a class ready for June so early? What about the medicals, background check, etc.? Can they do all that in just over a month? I have experience with this type of stuff at other agencies, and trust me, it is not at all a fast process, especially if you run into ay problems, like medical holds.

Then they will fill the class in June with the first to complete the process. Those resolving medical holds or other pre-employment issues will drop back a class or two and start in late June or July.

The last update I have gotten is they are working through the last of the promotional list as we speak. O/C list should start getting notices in the next few weeks.

Good. Good. Now I just hope they'll make it to at least 500 of the 1000 section on the OC list.

I guarantee you they will go well past 500. However, I do think everyone on the O/C list will have a longer wait than they think. The MTA is not exactly known for speed and efficiency.

no no, not 500. 500 past 1000, or 1500 :(

The speed in wich the MTA calls up would-be employees has nothing to do with them being slow or fast. Its simply, solely and purely a matter of how many people they need. As jobs become vacant, they fill them up, end of story.

Hello

I'm, as many other are, attempting to get some info I took exam 8094 and im so confused:confused:if they are calling people or contacting people from the list I was #9 on the original list but I have not heard anything from them. If some one would be kind enough to help me understand what is currently going it would be greatly appreciated;). Thank you in advance for any information anyone can help me out with.

Yup...as I understand it that ongoing class is the last C/R class to be assembled.

Also as I understand it (correct if you have other info) the first O/C's will be getting notices soon for a class currently scheduled to begin sometime in June.

"As jobs become vacant, they fill them up, end of story."

No, not end of story. They can only fill those jobs if they have the funding. If funding is tight, they might leave themsleves short changed and instead decide to make up the difference with overtime for current workers. Again, funding is what decides how many peopel are hired more than anything else. There are currently proposals to eliminate the MTA payroll tax, which brings in $1.5 billion a year. If that tax is eliminated, it will have devestating consequences for anyone hoping to get hired.

You do realize that a very small amount of the money generated by the MTA payroll tax actually goes to the MTA right? A very significant piece goes to balance the state deficit and is never even SEEN by the MTA.

As for overtime, putting more of a strain on their existing workforce is ill advised. They can't "force" employees to work overtime, it must be voluntary. As it is, there are some jobs they are having trouble filling, which is why the hiring pace has been so frantic of late. *my opinion* but I don't see signs of that letting up anytime soon. Also with society going the way it is, many of those eligible for retirement are getting out fast as they can, sometimes unexpectedly. I know several people with many years on the job and quite a few have said they are leaving the day they are eligible.

The only variable that could slow hiring is if down the road, significant budget cuts are made, leading to further service cuts which would reduce the demand for workers. However, that would also hurt the MTA's revenue since less people would ride less trains/buses, so it's probably not a good choice to make. Could happen though, but far enough away not to worry about it yet.

What's the odds of me getting a call with my list at 2954 which I score 94. Even dow I start with mta as a bus operator on monday.

Well, going by the last exam they went all the way up to list #3021 I believe. So they don't look too good without a 3-4 year wait. Honestly you need to get a 96 or better to really have a shot. But no sweat you start work with the (MTA) on monday so it's no big deal.

This city has got an almost permanent and growing underclass that are forever forced to use public transportation no matter what. Plus with so many people trying to be "green" and reduce their carbon footprint lately, not to mention the fact that its simply alot more convenient to use transit in many cases and with gasoline so expensive ridership will likely forever be high regardless of service cuts, people just sweat it out. On a personal level I'de find it difficult to retire with the way things are lately, confidence in one's investments and retirement plans has to be at an all-time low at the moment, however I keep hearing people are retiring left and right down in the subway.
