Forest Glen Posted October 30, 2009 Share #1 Posted October 30, 2009 A 150 million dollar project to replace all of the vertical suspension cables on the Manhattan Bridge will require the weekend shutdown of subway service over the bridge. This is the final phase of an extensive bridge rehabilitation project that began in the 1980's. Skanska, a Swedish engineering firm, will complete the project. Skanska will replace 622 vertical suspenders (cables that connect the deck of the bridge with the main cables). This sucks, but I'd rather the scrape the wall than the Manhattan Bridge collapse NY Times article http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/30/nyregion/30bridge.html?_r=1 Subchat Thread http://www.subchat.com/read.asp?Id=850209
