LTA1992 Posted November 3, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 3, 2009 Has the ever considered plans to put automated announcements on buses? Just to say where it's going. Ex- "This is a B82 Bus to Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue" or "This is a B44 LIMITED Bus to Williamsburg Bridge Terminal". Announcements like that. That way it would be clear and can be heard and payed attention to. Bringing back the external speakers.
Forest Glen Posted November 3, 2009 Share #2 Posted November 3, 2009 The NG buses have basic automated announcements that say "Exit through the back".
SoSpectacular Posted November 3, 2009 Share #3 Posted November 3, 2009 Long Island Bus is a good example of the automated announcements, the NGs have it in some form, but all they tell you do is move to the rear of the bus. The newer trains also employ a similar system, only much more interesting!
SevenEleven Posted November 3, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 3, 2009 I remember that on some of ENY's buses, they have this pre-recorded announcement that plays through the external. It includes the bus number and route at the beginning, what the fare is, and other rules that play for like 5 minutes.
7LineFan Posted November 3, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 3, 2009 The M16, and I believe the M34, have them.
St Louis Car 09 Posted November 4, 2009 Share #6 Posted November 4, 2009 That sounds like a cool idea. Are they still testing out GPS on certain RTS models.I remember 2 years ago I rode a crosstown bus and It had a GPS system which recorded time, distance to the next stop, and how many minutes behind or ahead of the bus schedule. dmouse Posted November 4, 2009 Share #7 Posted November 4, 2009 That probably was 9624, which now resides @ QV without that. *-Picture is property of Trevor Logan and ttmg!!!) It would be soc cool if it was like- "This is Jamaica Ave, transfer is available to the Q1,Q36, and Q88 bus. Connection is available to the LIRR"
jacsnyy Posted November 4, 2009 Share #8 Posted November 4, 2009 Can't B/O's record an external announcement which plays when the doors open? I've heard it a few times, such as "This is a Veterans Avenue B41 local" and it repeats over and over.
SoSpectacular Posted November 4, 2009 Share #9 Posted November 4, 2009 Never knew 9624 had that, I rode it once on the Q27. Probably didn't work out I guess.

Grand Concourse Posted November 6, 2009 Share #11 Posted November 6, 2009 Can't B/O's record an external announcement which plays when the doors open? I've heard it a few times, such as "This is a Veterans Avenue B41 local" and it repeats over and over. I have heard that announcement at Nostrand-Flatbush Junction. I think they would be better off renaming the line to like a B41b and the other the B41a. People are still going to be confused over what bus is what thinking the Bergen Beach bus is going to Kings Plaza.
