Despite poor economy, city still hires with civil service tests

When the economy sours, more job seekers look to civil service positions because of the security and benefits they provide.


Unfortunately, the city also tightens its belt during these tough times and imposes hiring freezes and layoffs.


But there is still hope. The city is continuing to give civil service tests and hire for certain jobs.


Here are some of the latest offerings:


The filing period for job opportunity specialist has been extended to Nov. 24. Specialists work at the city's Human Resources Administration and help people in public assistance move from welfare to work.
