South Ferry Station

Grand Concourse

Recommended Posts

So as I said, last week I finally went to the new South Ferry station and I thought it looked wonderful. Overspent when they could've just extended the platforms at the loop, but it looked nice.

Nice to see an old (new) friend again.

The reason they couldn't extend the platform at the loop, is because they wanted to increase capacity, not just platform length, plus where would you have the second/3rd entrance for the MUCH longer platform? Plus, they wanted to connect (R)(W).

Very nice photos from South Ferry and Battery Park... Yeah, those seats are slippery, I was waiting for a (1) and I almost fell butt down onto the ground... Next time I'll carry wax, jk, :(...

Thanks!

Bowling Green's entrance may be small... But you know.

Big things come in small packages!

Lol.

Good shots! The new station is overall nice, but I like the loop station as well. They're both good stations!

Thanks!

great pics again!

Thanks!

Great pics. The entrance to South Ferry-Whitehall is one of my favorites. Good thing that they made it easy to transfer from the (1) to the (R)(W) too.

Once again, hats off to your photography skills.

nice pics, too bad the new terminal will probably be closing soon. the place has been leaking salt water since before it opened. i flagged there a few days ago because they already have to replace damaged switchs. even with weeks of dry weather there is a constant flow of salt water corroding everything. i came off the tracks with salt stains all over my pants. that is one of the main reasons the loop station is still maintained because it may have to be used at anytime.

Wow, man that's a shame. And a very good thing they are keeping the loop station in shape. Though it is a loop that has gap fillers, it has been dependable for several decades and would be foolish to just decomission it just because the replacement is 'new and modern'.

How soon do you think they might have to close it down? And if so, will it be for long?

Great pics, I gotta hit up New South Ferry before it closes...;) lol

Personally I think almsot everything the MTA has done recently or is constructing(New SF, SAS, East Side Access, 7 Line Extension, R160s, Whoring out the Grand Central Shuttle with ads, etc) is just a way for the MTA to show off to tourists and promote use of the subway to them, but thats another story for another board lol. Anyway New SF was supposedly built to improve the headways and increase platform capacity, and I guess the crews were tired of tourists pulling the e-brake because they missed Old SF because they were in the 8th car lol. But, riding the 1 after the opening of the new station...I haven't really seen an increase in headways, and according to cdi919 theyre about to close a station they spent millions building. The MTA seems to think about the visual more than the behind the scenes stuff(i.e the 160s again;nice train on the outside, bugs on the inside).

The station looks nice but bland and lacking any real design but then again, I'm not an architect so, what can I do?
