TML Posted December 20, 2012 Share #5701 Posted December 20, 2012 (edited) Five years ago today, something happened that made me emotionally sensitive to the issue of health care reform in this country. Back in November 2007, a 17-year-old girl who I'll refer to as "Jane" (it pains me emotionally to mention her real name) received a bone marrow transplant in response to leukemia. That soon led to complications resulting in liver failure. A transplant organ was prepared and ready, but inexplicably, Jane's health insurer denied coverage for the liver transplant because it was considered by them as experimental - despite very good prognoses of survival by Jane's doctors. Eventually, after some intense lobbying by various people, the insurer finally capitulated. By then, however, Jane's condition had deteriorated to the point where she was removed from life support, and she died several hours later - exactly five years ago today. To this day, whenever I hear about the topic of health care reform, I am reminded of this tragedy. Edited December 20, 2012 by TML
Via Garibaldi 8 Posted December 20, 2012 Share #5702 Posted December 20, 2012 My boss just gave me my Xmas gift... She loves dark chocolates and I hate them even if they are special chocolates from Switzerland. Now milk chocolate or even white chocolate is a different story, but let's hope she scored well with the tie... I'm hoping it's a Brooks Brother's tie... I still have two of them and they're part of my regular rotation!

B35 via Church Posted December 20, 2012 Share #5704 Posted December 20, 2012 They did that secret santa shit today at the office (always hated that since I was in elementary school... Anyone remember those green plastic army figurines that used to come in like 100 in a bag, of each molded in a fixed position? Well that was the first gift anyone outside of family ever gave me)... Regardless, my vacation started yesterday & I aint wanna take part in that BS anyway.... If someone bought me chocolates, I'm sure whatever rodent or insect that gets to it first will be very happy !
Via Garibaldi 8 Posted December 20, 2012 Share #5705 Posted December 20, 2012 (edited) Believe it or not I prefer dark choclate over anything else. Both white and milk chocolate are to sweet for my tastes. lol... Well I think some of these chocolates are milk chocolates because she's given these to me before when she's come back from Europe from meetings or vacation or whatever, but some of these which is another Swiss brand I'm sure are dark chocolate. They may be somewhat tolerable because they're chocolate truffles. They did that secret santa shit today at the office (always hated that since I was in elementary school... LOL.... In my old office we'd pick names at random and each person got something for $20.00 or more. One year I got something okay and the other year I got something beyond stupid, but that was only for two years until I moved on. The boss would give Xmas bonuses so that was what was important. One year this idiot buys me a couple of pair of socks and I'm like really? He saw me once in the office in the summertime without any (which some folks like to do by choice when wearing airy shoes like drivers) so he goes and buys me socks as if he needs to insinuate to me that I either should wear socks or don't have any. I said what an idiot. This guy doesn't have a clue about style and I don't need socks because I have at least 3 weeks worth of socks. I think the other year though I got a $20.00 gift card to Macy's. That was decent because I used that to buy Godiva cookies for the office. Edited December 20, 2012 by Via Garibaldi 8
CDTA Posted December 20, 2012 Share #5706 Posted December 20, 2012 Got a nice Kodak EasyShare M530 for Christmas! (My mom wanted to wait to give it to me, but my other video camera broke beyond repair a few weeks ago, and with my upcoming trip to the city with the and whatnot, she decided to give it to me now.) Going to test it out tomorrow!
alejr88 Posted December 22, 2012 Share #5707 Posted December 22, 2012 Currently playing Super Smash Bros Melee on the Nintendo Gamecube, while listening to the Starfox 64 theme as well. Probably the better game out of all 3 series released.

Joel Up Front Posted December 22, 2012 Share #5709 Posted December 22, 2012 lol apple formats Anyway, I had to go to Boston for a few days. It was nice, but they have the rowdiest sports fans in the States and I hate all three of their major teams.

Yeah, that's gonna be fun. Probably gonna wear two shirts. Or three. Oh, a story I forgot to mention; Ok, so I have 9 classes a day. On Friday I had 8. Half of them were parties. You see, what I do, is I take the "small remainder" that nobody wants, in addition to my regular samples. I also, take any food I didn't eat in one class, to the next class. At the end of the day, I had about 4 trays of cookies and chips I took home, along with 3 bottles of soda. Oh, and someone gave me an entire tray of cookies, and an unopened box of Pop Em's. And in addition to the above, I ate cookies all day since period 3, except for those two periods where I had a gobstopper candy cane. And also, I looked at something and said "Oooh, latkes!" Turns out they were just really, really, really, burnt cookies. On another note: Windows Media Player broke for an unknown reason. It's a good thing I got RealPlayer. CDTA Posted December 22, 2012 Share #5714 Posted December 22, 2012 Another thing I forgot to add to the post above ^^ I had two shopping bags worth of cookies and chips and donuts and whatnot, not to mention I had a HUGE jug of Hawaiian Punch, and that all of my bag was already filled with soda. (Minus the space needed for my school stuff)

I was thinking about taking some of the food home, but then I'm like "Eh, I'll have to carry it home, and it's cake and cookies anyway, so I can live without it". Plus, I had to pick something up from the store anyway, so I just left it there. Some other students probably stopped by and ate the remainder anyway.

Yeah, I was two minutes late to pick up some cupcakes and some other kid sniped them from me. ------------------ Oh and by the way, I walked downstairs this morning, opened the fridge with the intention of eating a cookie, and do you know how many were left? TWO. It's a good thing I kept that box of Pop Em's in my room....

Grand Concourse Posted December 25, 2012 Share #5718 Posted December 25, 2012 Spent the day in Midtown Manhattan for my annual photo blitz. Also finally got around to watching Skyfall. It really was one of the best Bond films (going all the way back to Dr. No) and manages to capture what made Casino Royale great. the DB5 got some great moments: Bond threatening to use the passenger ejector seat button and using the machine guns. Eat that BMW cars of the Brosnan era! Sadly it was shot up and destroyed There's a new Q, but with this more realistic approach, I don't think we'll be seeing the over the top gadgets of the past. I'm surprised they kept that stuff about the DB5 in the film: nice nod to Goldfinger.
