NX Express 292 Posted November 16, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 16, 2009 On the Brighton line at Cortelyou Rd, a track connection was built southbound from the local to the express. Except for money reasons, why didn't they build an X-crossover, since they're tearing up the tracks anyway?
INDman 414 Posted November 16, 2009 Share #2 Posted November 16, 2009 On the Brighton line at Cortelyou Rd, a track connection was built southbound from the local to the express. Except for money reasons, why didn't they build an X-crossover, since they're tearing up the tracks anyway? The hard rail connection allows trains to go from the local to express track at a faster speed then if it were a cross over. Remember, most switches are limited to 10 mph, 15 mph at the most. Also, putting in a switch would be more expensive since you would need to install signals for it and it would have to be hooked up to a control tower in the area. Also, there is just no need for it in that location.
