FamousNYLover Posted November 19, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 19, 2009 Does anyone walk along Hudson River Park north of 55th Street? I think it was around W. 66th St where I spotted steam locomotive from NY Central Railroad? Do you guys know what is that? Thanks for help. I do not believe any NYC steam power survived aside from 2 engines left out in chicago that were hidden in a closed shop by the yard workers. - A

metsfan Posted November 19, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 19, 2009 I believe that engine is just one marked up in NYC livery, not one ever otherwise associated with the 'road. - A

rad3766 Posted November 20, 2009 Share #7 Posted November 20, 2009 I think (don't quote me on this) that's ex-Cross Harbor. You are correct. A bit of diggin around on the innernet shows it as being Cross Harbors #25, Alco S-1, built 1946, aquired by CHRR in 1983. Ex Erie 307, ex Erie-Lackawanna 307, ex BEDT 25 (Brooklyn Eastern District Terminal) #25's 3 other Alco stablemates went to the scrap yard. metsfan Posted November 20, 2009 Share #8 Posted November 20, 2009 That must have been the one that worked down in elizabethport, i've seen photos of it in original livery. I believe it had the white EL on the sides before repaint for the park. - A
