Trainspotter Posted December 21, 2007 Share #1 Posted December 21, 2007 7 line extension may get 41st Street stop The city's offer Thursday to partially fund a sought-after 10th Avenue station on the No. 7 subway line fueled a political squabble of who should pay the rest of the bill. Outgoing Deputy Mayor Daniel Doctoroff told a state assembly oversight committee Thursday that the city is willing to foot $225 million - or half the cost - for a shell of a station on 10th Avenue and 41st Street. The station would be part of a $2.1 billion city-funded expansion of the No. 7 line, which currently includes only one stop at the Javits Center. TransitGuy Posted December 24, 2007 Share #2 Posted December 24, 2007 Is this the station that was initially suppose to be a "shell" in Hell's Kitchen? I say while they are at it, they should go all out since they can't reverse projects like this so they may as well build as much stations as they can. R1Toasty Posted December 24, 2007 Share #3 Posted December 24, 2007 It'd be weird if they didn't build one. Although there was an agreement to only pay half for a shell, I believe.
sebbieprops Posted December 24, 2007 Share #4 Posted December 24, 2007 Glad to hear that they're adding the new stops, but there are a number of other improvements for which the MTA ought to use that funding.

I agree, I think the MTA should really start to focus on the other boroughs. I think Queens needs help.

Extensions in Queens on the and are much more needed than a Manhattan extension.
Pablo M 201 Posted December 24, 2007 Share #7 Posted December 24, 2007 Keyword: "MAY" When they say that they'll put the stop instead of a "shell" then I'll listen. But ya, I agree with Seb about making an extension for the and in Queens instead of the other way around. One thing though, I think the MTA is afraid of moving forward past Main Street on the since they first thought they weren't going to move the line anymore from there. The can most definately being extended past where its at now in Queens. BUT, it should be the that should past 179th Street. I think there, the would look good and possibly be appreciated than what it is now. Sorry to head way off topic there, but had to make those points. sebbieprops Posted December 25, 2007 Share #8 Posted December 25, 2007 And the sad part is, a Queens extension on the and would never happen, thanks to all the opposition that would come from the NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) people.

Aw man, your right, I forgot about NIMBYs in that area. That would be more of an interference with an extension to the more than the since ppl actually want an extension of the past Main Street and more into Long Island. With the , not many ppl are actually asking for it.
R32 3348 Posted December 26, 2007 Share #10 Posted December 26, 2007 I think you have it the other way around, Bayside is NIMBYville.
