R10 2952 Posted November 21, 2009 #1 Posted November 21, 2009 Specifically, I have the Orion VII NGs on mind. From what I had heard, they were supposed to retire and replace only a certain amount of buses, but from what I can see, the vast majority of buses currently running on the Kingsbridge lines that I most frequently see and use (the Bx7, Bx10, and Bx20) are NGs. Why are the Orion Vs at Kingsbridge being displaced? What is the meaning of this?
mark1447 Posted November 22, 2009 #2 Posted November 22, 2009 I think they retireed the 93s orion Vs? I also notice the Bx1 on some Orion VII NGs, which its shouldnt be like that since its a Concourse Bus which gets packed. I wonder if the Bx41 is still on NGs or on the d60s
R32 3348 Posted November 22, 2009 #3 Posted November 22, 2009 Kingsbridge got 78 NG's in September (4330-4407). That retired all of their 1993-1996 O5's, and the few that survived were sent to West Farms. Now all KB has are the 1998-9 Orion V's and the NG's (and the artics as well).

In addition, I think it was foolish for them to retire buses that are only 13-16 years old, but maybe that's because I'm used to seeing buses that have been in service for 20-25+ years (not in NY, except for some of the PBL buses). I never liked the Orion V too much, but I dislike the Orion VII NGs even more.

I think the reason that some of our buses stuck around this long is because they were overhauled every 3 years, but I don't think they do that anymore.

No, the government recommends minimum of 12 years to be replaced with federal funds. They never said required. MTA buses are generally meet and exceed the recommendation of 12 years as you said overhauled, includes maintenance work in a schedule period of time.

Those KB 4-600s had to be retired they were falling apart at the seams, there was no way they were going to make it to 18 years old like the TMCs
Kingsbridge Bus Posted November 28, 2009 #8 Posted November 28, 2009 Most buses that has a history in Kingsbridge does not last long:(.
St Louis Car 09 Posted November 30, 2009 #9 Posted November 30, 2009 Man Kingsbridge has been getting ripped lately.Do I smell closure?
