SubwayGuy Posted November 23, 2009 Share #9 Posted November 23, 2009 Yes many of the signals in the system contain LED's...couldn't tell you which ones because there are obviously too many to keep track of but based on the picture that homeball on the Flushing line sure looks like one of them. However it's difficult to tell for certain by that picture.
INDman Posted November 23, 2009 Share #10 Posted November 23, 2009 Yes many of the signals in the system contain LED's...couldn't tell you which ones because there are obviously too many to keep track of but based on the picture that homeball on the Flushing line sure looks like one of them. However it's difficult to tell for certain by that picture. Most have been upgraded to LED except in a few locations and some repeater signals. On home balls, the use 2 different shades of green, I am not 100% sure why but I think it is so a T/O can tell that it is a home ball and not two clear signals in a row that are very close together. One interesting note, only new 2 shot grade time signals have a white "S" made of LEDs, older 2 shots that have been upgraded have white LEDs placed behind a special leans. Also to upgrade a signal to LED, it has to be rewired so it's not as simple as swapping out older bulbs for LED units. By the way, that Home ball is has LEDs. SubwayGuy Posted November 26, 2009 Share #14 Posted November 26, 2009 Where was the 1st pic taken? Is it referring to the R110 cars? Yes. It's a conductor's board for the R-110 B's. As 67 foot cars, the likes of which haven't been seen since the A/B's (BMT Standards), the conductor would not line up with a standard conductor's board when running those cars, so the board was specifically placed to allow a conductor in the R-110B train to point to it to ensure all cars were on the platform before he opens the doors.
