WASHINGTON - The unemployment rate unexpectedly fell to 10 percent in November as employers cut the smallest number of jobs since the recession began.

The better-than-expected job figures are a rare note of encouraging news for the labor market.

Still, the respite may be temporary. Many economists expect the unemployment rate to climb into next year as the economy struggles to generate enough jobs for the 15.4 million people out of work.

The economy shed 11,000 jobs last month, an improvement from October's revised total of 111,000, the Labor Department said Friday. That's much better than the 130,000 Wall Street economists expected.

I know we all like to be optimists, but this is the important part of that

People need to hire and spend, it's the only way this economy will recover. Firing people only makes things worse.

Businesses need to hire and spend instead of pocketing their profits which is all they have been doing. People need to stop buying from businesses that hoard. People need to save their money for retirement since it's obvious there won't be anything left by the time they get there.

Some of those people need to use it to start new product based companies.

They also need to get back to work finding opportunities to export and sell to other countries since the trade deficit is sapping everyone's wealth.

They also need to start widely supporting wage increases as they apply to working people, voting, and sending their congressmen and local leaders letters. If you don't vote, and you complain to a congressman, they WILL NOT CARE what you have to say because they are not concerned you'll vote them out of office...vote and vote often. I know you young people feel "disillusioned" out there because the mostly white, mostly male, mostly rich, mostly old majority of government is screwing you but the only way to do something about it without a full scale revolution is to VOTE. If you don't VOTE, they won't take your concerns seriously. Why do you think they care what a bunch of seniors who many are gonna be dead in 10-20 years have to say about fixing a healthcare system that they themselves probably won't be around to see change?

I agree what you guys are saying, but at the same time a lot of people are still struggling to make ends meet. People getting laid off or fired is just making the unemployment to go sky rocket every single day. Within the past 3 months where I work at people were getting fired over the stupidest things not know that times are rough looking for work. I think it’s just best to keep your nose clean, and to shut your mouth until things get better. I'm still currently looking for something better everyday since I am not happy where I'm at... My hours have been cut, no overtime, being behind on bills, and I had to barrow money from my 401k to make ends meet.
