With the longest route with 1 fare you can start from the SIR Tottenville Station to Eltingville. From Eltingville transfer for the S79 bus to 86th Street Station. Take the (R) train from 86th Street to 59th Street-Lexington Ave. Transfer to the (6) train to 125th Street, Then take the (4) or the (5) train to 149th Street in the Bronx. Take the (2) train from 149th Street to 241st Street.

From SIR Tottenville Station to Eltingville it takes about 15 minutes. From Eltingville to 86 Street, it can take about anywhere between 53-59 minute bus ride on the S79. Once on the (R) train at 86th Street it takes about 59 minutes to get to Lexington Avenue-59th Street going all local stops. From Lexington Avenue-59th Street you take the (6) train to 125th Street. The trip between 59th Street to 125th St can take about 17 minutes. Then take the (4) or the (5) train to 149th Street. The trip only takes about 5 minutes on either train. Then at 149th Street transfer to the (2) train to 241st Street. The trip can takes about 35 minutes. All together the total trip time from SIR Tottenville Station to Wakefield-241st Street takes 190 minutes or 3 hours and 10 minutes with one $2.25 fare. From the above posts this is not the longest trip with one $2.25 fare.

My second idea is that you can ride With the longest route with 1 fare you can start from the SIR Tottenville Station to Eltingville. From Eltingville transfer for the S79 bus to 86th Street Station. Take the (R) train from 86th Street to Forest Hills-71st Avenue. Then take the (F) train to Kew Gardens- Union Turnpike. Take the (E) train to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Avenue, Transfer to the (J) or the (Z) train to Broadway Junction. From Broadway Junction take the (C) train to Euclid Avenue, Transfer to the (A) train to Far Rockaway.

From SIR Tottenville Station to Eltingville it takes about 15 minutes. From Eltingville to 86 Street, it can take about anywhere between 53-59 minute bus ride on the S79. Once on the (R) train at 86th Street it takes about 84 minutes to get to Forest Hills-71st Avenue with all local stops. Once on the (F) train at Forest Hills-71st Avenue, it takes about 4 minutes to get to Kew Gardens-Union Turnpike. Once on the (E) train at Kew Gardens-Union Turnpike it takes about 7 minutes to get to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Avenue. Once on the (J) or the (Z) trains at Sutphin Blvd-Archer Avenue it takes about 24 minutes to get to Broadway Junction. Once on the (C) train it takes about 6-8 minutes to get to Euclid Avenue. Once on the (A) train at Euclid Avenue it takes about 32 minutes to get to Far Rockaway. From SIR Tottenville Station to Far Rockaway it takes about 233 minutes or 3 hours 53 minutes but it can take 4 hours depending on how the trains and buses run.

Of course, the system was a bit smaller back then without the Archer Avenue line(s) and the 63rd street line.

Both lines probably made it easier, especially Archer Av, since the connection makes it so you only have to go on the Queens Blvd and Jamaica lines once.

Nope Rules again are

- Must be within the (MTA)

- A Single 2.25 Fare

- No Using the same Train/Bus more than once

- No Circle routing...(i.e No Taking the (C) from 14th to Broadway Junction and then using the (A) to get back in the opposite direction, or Using the (L) to go back to 8 AV these are examples of Circles)

- The Free Transfer is included in the 2.25 base within the MTA.

- Bus Transfer cannot be more then a 5 block walk from the Transferring subway station.

Anyone can sit here and say "Just keep riding the (A) from end2end", that's not the point of this challenge, the challenge is to find the longest One Way Trip on 2.25.

I can tell you guys right now, you not going to get longer than 3 hrs Only using the Subway, you will most likely need to use a Bus, perferably a bus route that very long and slow moving.

Another good example would be:

Take the (F) from CI to Jay st (60 mins) for the (A) or (C) to B'way Nassau (10 mins) transfer to the Uptown (4)(5) to City Hall (2 min) for the Uptown (6) to 33rd (20 mins) walk a block to Madison for the uptown M4 to the Cloisters (2hr) = Total Trip time 3 hrs 40 mins

OK. The longest train-only ride would seem to be the (2) from Wakefield-241 St followed by the (A) to Far Rockaway. The MTA website says this is the longest ride with one transfer (38 miles). There might well be longer rides with more transfers that still doesn't violate your rules.

I do not know about longer rides involving bus rides. I suppose if you can make the above trip in 2 hours and transfer to the Q113, you could make a long trip out of it. I am not sure if going back north to Queens Blvd counts as circling. In any case, if you mean to count total time and not distance as determining what is the longest journey, then you will never have a clear winner, since bus journeys always take longer than scheduled (by varying amounts of time) due to traffic or weather conditions, as does subway rides due to track work/congestion/train breakdown/GOs etc.

The best way to measure the longest trip is by miles covered; by that definition, a ride including the Bee-Line and the (2) train definitely wins (whether you go to Staten Island or Far Rockaway eventually). If you must measure by time, I am sure the Staten Island trip will be really long since the ferry isn't exactly fast (by bus/subway standards).

FamousNYLover knows more about Bee-Line buses than I do, so his info might be useful.

before the Archer Ave extension it did go further, to about 168th street, it was in the early 80s when it was cut back to 121 street
As late as October 3, 1969 the system still had the (MJ), 70(8) and Culver Shuttle 70(SS) as well. Adding Dean Street, there were thirty-four more stations then.

Archer Avenue and 63d Street replaced six of those stations.

(6) from Westchester Square to 125, then transfer to the (5) and get off at Bowling Green to go to Stone Street, then board the (1) and transfer to the (3) at Chambers St (I think) and head to 148th and go downtown to 110th to transfer to the (2), and get off at 3rd Ave/149th andtake the Bx55 to go home. 3 hours and a half in total.
