The charity's bright red kettles are getting a modern makeover in the form of a credit-card machines that it hopes will make it easier to donate. The new "plastic" kettles will start appearing around the city in the next two weeks. They're already being used in 120 other cities, said Salvation Army spokeswoman Jennifer Byrd.
