rockdove Posted December 12, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 12, 2009 I began to wonder today what the longest trip time from one point to another within NY city limits by public transportation might be. I would consider all forms of public transportation -- subway, bus, express bus, private bus lines, railroads -- to be fair game. I believe a strong contender is the Southern tip of City Island to the Southwestern tip of the Rockaways. Hopstop, using all its knowledge, gives a best answer of 2 hours and 50 minutes (4 buses and a train) for a total of 32.75 miles. I've found hopstop to be not completely accurate with time, though. http://www.hopstop.com?action=route&route_id=b20e0e1dcu91x982 City Island to southern tip of Staten Island is even worse at 3.5 hours and almost 40 miles: http://www.hopstop.com?action=route&route_id=0e9emi32e012dc8r Anyone know of alternative public transportation that would shorten these times? None I can think of, if you live in the outskirts of the five buroughs a car is a wise investment. If you are traveling from Queens to the Bronx (71st forest hills to Yankee Stadium) , at minimum you are looking at a hour plus commute.
metsfan Posted December 12, 2009 Share #3 Posted December 12, 2009 My friend was stuck in an unmanned train for like 6 hours in a tunnel yard, does that count? I gotta say the plus the plus the might not be long distance wise, but it would be time wise. - A
fishmech Posted December 12, 2009 Share #4 Posted December 12, 2009 The full length of the is 32 miles from 207th street manhattan to either Rocakaway terminal. It's at least 2 hours. and if you switch to the in the middle its even longer.
EE Broadway Local Posted December 16, 2009 Share #5 Posted December 16, 2009 How about Mott Avenue to 207th Street and BX 12 to its' end? I would say Staten Island and eastern Queens.
Paul P Posted December 16, 2009 Share #6 Posted December 16, 2009 With Long Island RR, a long trip would be from Little Neck, Queens, to The Rockaways or SI.
