Fred G Posted December 20, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 20, 2009 I caught these in New Haven yesterday while waiting for my Shore Line East train. And a bonus pic of the cab car of my SLE train.
mark1447 Posted December 20, 2009 Share #2 Posted December 20, 2009 Excellent Pixs Fred! What fleet is the last car?
Amtrak7 Posted December 21, 2009 Share #3 Posted December 21, 2009 The SLE cars are ex-VRE cars. How well utilized are the weekend SLE trains that only make NH, NH State, Guilford, and OSB? It seems that they are only for equipment move purposes.
Fred G Posted December 21, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted December 21, 2009 Excellent Pixs Fred! What fleet is the last car? SLE Mafersa cars, ex-VRE as Amtrak7 said. I like them a lot as they ride nicely and the heat really cranks! The SLE cars are ex-VRE cars. How well utilized are the weekend SLE trains that only make NH, NH State, Guilford, and OSB? It seems that they are only for equipment move purposes. I don't know what the ridership is on those trains as I've never ridden in that direction other than at night. Fred G Posted December 22, 2009 Author Share #14 Posted December 22, 2009 Thanks for the kind words, all. As was pointed out, they are Mafersa ex VRE coaches. They reportedly can't run to GCT since they don't have automatic doors and can't run fast in 3rd rail territory. They are my favorite coaches to ride. traildriver Posted December 25, 2009 Share #16 Posted December 25, 2009 That Mafersa car looks a lot like an old Budd 'clocker' standard streamliner car. I think I'll look for more pics of them.

Fred G Posted December 26, 2009 Author Share #18 Posted December 26, 2009 Is car 1701 an example of a Mafersa ex VRE Coach? Yes it is, MegaBus. It's been repainted in the ConnDOT scheme. Prior to this they looked like this, as delivered in 2005: The Shoreliner on the end was the cab car as none of the VRE coaches were cab cars. Here's what the interior looks like: They're nice cars and ride well for the 40 min or whatever it takes between OSB and NHV.
