Harry 1,088 Posted December 31, 2007 Share #1 Posted December 31, 2007 By request I'm opening the Academy Bus forum. We'll see how it works for the next 2 weeks. If there's little activity here, whatever posts this forum might have will be moved to the "Other Transit Forum".

sebbieprops 0 Posted December 31, 2007 Share #3 Posted December 31, 2007 I've never heard of Academy buses. In what city do they operate?
Ken S. 4 Posted December 31, 2007 Share #4 Posted December 31, 2007 I've never heard of Academy buses. In what city do they operate? They operate in central NJ as Academy Lines and in Hudson County as #22 Hillside Corp. There's an article on Academy on Wikipedia.

Ken S. 4 Posted December 31, 2007 Share #7 Posted December 31, 2007 Would it be more proper to rename the forum to 'Academy Lines Forum' instead Ken? Possibly, that's the name used on Wikipedia for the company, but they use several d/b/a names. I'd call it "Academy Lines and related companies" or something to that effect. Pablo M 201 35 Posted December 31, 2007 Share #8 Posted December 31, 2007 Oh no, don't trust whats said on Wiki. That Academy page has some false info. Academy does everything as a bus company in terms of its service. It operates local bus lines in NJ, does commuter service from further points with their own buses, and then charters. Also, remember, everything Academy is based out of Hoboken, their offices in southern Hoboken and all their buses (cruisers, not all the buses that are NJT are there, just the NJT buses for the 2, 22, 23, and 88 routes) in northern Hoboken. So the name thats up is ok, but really its a Academy Tours. Like I said the other thread, discussion about the local routes it runs in NJ should be in NJT Bus Operations forum because NJT buses are being used and the routes are contracted. DOB2RTO 29 Posted December 31, 2007 Share #9 Posted December 31, 2007 I've never heard of Academy buses. In what city do they operate? Go to a Jets football game at the Meadowlands, and you will see the team arrive in 4 Academy Setra buses. As the others said they do transit work under contract from NJT, but they do casino line runs, to Foxwoods, Atlantic City, and Mohegan Sun, they do regular charters, then they do V.I.P. charters for professional teams. They took just about all (if not all) of Campus Coach Lines V.I.P. NFL, MLB, and NBA contracts. Academy uses their own buses for charters which are D4500s, J4500s, Prevost H3-45 and LeMirage (might of sold them off), and Setra for V.I.P. and groups willing to pay for that top of the line coach. The V.I.P. jobs I know about, as I use to do those jobs for Campus, for 4 years of my 5.6 years with them.
