shellsage Posted January 2, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 2, 2010 Hi, Is there an unlimited MetroCard that also works for the LIRR? Pretty much my question is, what is the cheapest option for unlimited MetroCard and unlimited LIRR each month? Thanks! Vic

shellsage Posted January 2, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted January 2, 2010 So is Kew Gardens considered Zone 1? It's hard to tell based on their map, it doesn't say what gray is.

shellsage Posted January 2, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted January 2, 2010 Do you think it'd be faster to take the E train to 14th/8th Ave from Kew Gardens or to take the LIRR then transfer at Penn Station? I've heard that the LIRR from Kew Gardens to Penn station is only 10 minutes, but Google Maps says otherwise.

I've heard that the LIRR from Kew Gardens to Penn station is only 10 minutes, but Google Maps says otherwise. Judging by the schedule, it might take about 20 minutes. http://www.mta.info/lirr/Timetable/CityStation.htm?Folder=Branch&CityZone=Kew%20Gardens%20and%20Forest%20Hills&Direction=West&Period=Weekdays
soyintocable Posted January 3, 2010 Share #7 Posted January 3, 2010 If you look at this page of LIRR fares: http://www.mta.info/mta/09/lirr.html It shows an unlimited monthy card cost $149 a month for Zone 1 travel and $177 for Zone 3 travel. There is a small link above this chart "Fares for Connecting Services" and leads to another page showing fares for connecting service. http://www.mta.info/mta/09/connecting.html This page says its current as of 6/28/09 and lists an unlimited NYC Transit pass as an add-on for the LIRR pass at $31.75 per month. SO a combined Zone 1 pass and add-on NYC transit will cost $149 + $31.75 = $180.75 a Zone 3 pass and add-on NYC trabsit will cost $177 + $31.75 = $208.
Zman Posted January 3, 2010 Share #8 Posted January 3, 2010 The time saved would not be worth the additional cost, unless you have a good amount of disposable income.

On mail and ride and webticket, it's regular price for the monthly. I know because i've done this before and nowhere does the LIRR offer a monthly metrocard for that cheap:(
