67thAve Posted January 28, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 28, 2010 My pick would be Hempstead Gardens. I board my trains there. During rush hours, at most people either get on or disembark from the train. On weeekends, at most, person is disembarking or boarding.

nhrrwtby Posted January 28, 2010 Share #3 Posted January 28, 2010 I can't imagine any line less used than the MNR Waterbury branch.
xWorldAgainstMeBXHCx Posted January 28, 2010 Share #4 Posted January 28, 2010 I can't imagine any line less used than the MNR Waterbury branch. a while back, I remember reading somewhere that former CT governor John Rowland once said that it would be cheaper for the State to buy every Waterbury Branch rider a Minivan than keep the line in operation. I railfanned it a few weeks ago, and it was surprisingly crowded. as for least used stations, I would imagine Appalachian Trail or Breakneck Ridge don't see much use. St Louis Car 09 Posted January 28, 2010 Share #5 Posted January 28, 2010 Williamsbridge on the metro-north as the least used station.
Truckie Posted January 28, 2010 Share #6 Posted January 28, 2010 as for least used stations, I would imagine Appalachian Trail or Breakneck Ridge don't see much use. Trains only stop at these stations twice a day in each direction (North in the AM, South in the PM) on weekends only. Other stations with very infrequent service is Manitou and Mount Pleasant. Truckie Posted January 28, 2010 Share #7 Posted January 28, 2010 Williamsbridge on the metro-north as the least used station. There are stations on the Danbury and Waterbury branches that have far less volume than Williamsbridge. Cannondale and Beacon Falls are two that come to mind. Rutgers Tube Posted January 28, 2010 Share #8 Posted January 28, 2010 I can't imagine any line less used than the MNR Waterbury branch. The Waterbury Branch's ridership has increased dramatically, as has Shore Line East's. The response to Waterbury has been increased service, including a.m. Peak and reverse Peak trains, as well as railroad tie replacement and improved security at stations and in parking lots. From what I understand, the cars have been packed during these runs and even more service has been requested. SLE has had station improvements and electrification of both lines has been studied. Jamaica Express Posted January 28, 2010 Share #10 Posted January 28, 2010 All stations east of Ronkonkoma on the mainline see extremely poor ridership on weekdays, Same for all stations east of Patchogue on the Montauk Branch...(both see a significant amount of more weekend riders than weekdays..especially in the summer)...The entire West Hempstead Branch is dead outside of Rush Hour...Im sure there's a few more that I can't think of right now

I had no idea, having moved away from Waterbury over 35 years ago. At that time you were lucky if you had 10 people on the Budd RDC in the morning. Of course, you were also lucky if it the RDC's were actually functioning. Many times it was a CR&L Bus to Bridgeport. Those were dark days after the NH folded...NY, NH & H, Penn Central, Conrail...sad.
Zman Posted January 29, 2010 Share #13 Posted January 29, 2010 Other stations with very infrequent service is Manitou and Mount Pleasant. Mount Pleasant? How can that be? I don't believe it. I mean, there are so many people just dying to go there.
