The R68 is next on the trash line after the R46, which is after the R44. The R32 fits somewhere in there as well.

mark1447 Posted January 28, 2010 Share #7 Posted January 28, 2010 It was a school car. Why are they using R68s for school? Shouldnt it be old cars?
R44 5278 Posted January 29, 2010 Share #8 Posted January 29, 2010 Why are they using R68s for school? Shouldnt it be old cars? They are the newest of the SMEEs and supposedly the most controllable of the SMEEs. Note that new T/Os are first trained with SMEEs to get a feel for it before they are trained for NTTs (if needed). Hmmm, if i were to some day learn to operate the R68/A, would this mean i can operate an older SMEE car, such as the Redbirds..? Regarding operating! 2 Train Master Posted January 29, 2010 Share #10 Posted January 29, 2010 Mhmmm interesting.I think the 68's are next to go after the 44/46's.But they will probably start retiring 62's & the 68's at the same time.

Thats not like happening soon.. Thats like 20-25 yrs from now, so thats long.. And i would have to agree with R44 5278. Its not in school use for retirement, just to upgrade to the latest car... They train/practice/qualify on all equipment. They'll take a lay up from someplace after the AM rush and practice making station stops. Yesterday an R46 school car went from 179 to Rock Park. Other times you'll see an 8 car R160 from the ENY pool which wound up in CIYD after AM rush M service make a round trip from CIYD to Court Sq. via the F/G. They go anywhere during the day, irrregardless of the equipment.

Zman Posted January 29, 2010 Share #16 Posted January 29, 2010 When I said "all equipment", I meant all revenue equipment. That's to say everything from the R32 to the R160 in the division that the T/O's are assigned to.

R44 5278 Posted January 29, 2010 Share #23 Posted January 29, 2010 I'm definitely surprised that the R68/As didn't rumble the Brighton home foundations as the R44s and R46s did in spite of the fact that the R68/As are much heavier.

Far Rock Depot Posted January 29, 2010 Share #25 Posted January 29, 2010 Do new T/Os still have to be certified operating from an R46s "B" end? I forgot the actual term thats used for this operation. And i beleive there's only one or two cars left capable of this kind of op.
