Jay Leno needs to retire already. I don't hate him or anything but he's getting old, and needs to give up the comedic business already. He's been in the industry for decades, I really think it's just time for him to go.

Yup. Here is Jay Leno's 1st major TV apperence on the classic 1970's era sitcom "Good Times' with Jimmie "JJ" walker circa 1975 at a clinic for people with std's. Leno has a short cameo. Watch especially from around the 4:00 mark onwards.

Jay> Conan

Jay is a lot funnier than Conan. Conan should've never been promised the Tonight Show. He's crying even though he got a generous severance package.

Yup. No offense but if i was Conan the hell with hosting the Tonight Show give me the $40 Million plus buyout and personally I am partying until his new gig probably with Fox TV this Fall. And annunal salary of as high as $20 Million on his next job as well.

The honor of being the "Tonight Show host" IMO died out when Johnny Carson retired in 1992.;)

Conans job was taking away from him for a big F'up @ NBC. Yea he should be crying, What do you mean "conan should have never been promised the tonght show?" Why not because Jay Leno is such an douchbag that no one could have the tonght show but him? This is big business and alot of money involved. You damn right conan walked away with money, and he's entitled to every penny. Mr negative.

Dan i think what i think Mr Wilson was saying is that Conan should have never been promised the 1130pm show because of fact, leno was kicking the butt of Letterman in the ratings and was #1 late night talk show host for about 15 years.

And the short 6 months O Brien had the 1130pm gig, Letterman beat NBC for first time since the first year Dave had his own CBS show on CBS in 1993.

So then why did NBC change things? Does that make sense?

I also agree with Forest Glen, if they like Leno so much to stay and host at 1130pm they should have just let Conan 'free agent' and go to another station. Chances Leno would still beat Conan at either Fox or ABC.

NBC exces are imo idiots in trying to switch the 10pm slot as most people either want to watch a drama, reality show or newsmagazine show like 'Dateline or 20/20' at that hour. They were trying to save $$$ because they had flops and nothing to replace a classic show like "Law & Order." 10pm is too early for a 'late night talk show.'

exact, Yes Jay leno kicked the shit outta dave in the ratings but like I said they should have left everything the way it was. My fav nbc show l&o svu is suffering because of this with lame ass shows because they air it @ 9pm now.

I like what Craig Ferguson said, that the Tonight Show ended years ago when Johnny Carson left.

It's kind of true, if you've ever old episodes of the Tonight Show from that era (pre-Jay), it's a different type of humor and a different type of show. Conan never should have been put in that time slot to begin with, he was much more suited for 12:30. Of course, that's not his fault, but just saying. And Jay should have stuck to what he agreed to in the first place or left.
