bigrene18 Posted January 29, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 29, 2010 Here something you guys didn't know about the Archer Avenue Subway... According to one of the old signs that hovered above the tracks on the northbound platform at the Union Turnpike station (they're gone now, this was about 24 years ago), the and were to continue to 179th Street, and the and 70(N) were to go to Jamaica Center. There was to be a late night shuttle train from Van Wyck Blvd to Jamaica Center (This is what the sign actually said at Van Wyck Blvd underneath the black sticker covering. Whether they actually had plans to implement this scheme, I do not know.) Until the late 1980's, there were several signs at that station which displayed the and running there (Despite that, the and 70(N) never stopped at the Union T'pke station for that proposed service. The did however stopped at that station when it ran to 179th Street during late nights in the 90's though).

The 70(N) went to 71 Av back then, right?
bigrene18 Posted January 29, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted January 29, 2010 Oops, never mind. The 70(N) went to 71 Av back then, right? Yep from August 30th, 1976 to May 24th 1987. Obviously those signs was installed in the station before the the 70(N) swapped northern terminals with the , or vice versa.
