Can't there ever be a "mature" conversation about R179/R188 w/out leading to a flame war. In honesty topics like this is for some people to talk about and isn't for most people cause they get ahead of themselves and get defensive over the little things.

I'm...so...sick of thickheaded transit bastards who disturbs the peace of R179/R188 topics and starts a flame war. Then the topic gets locked down and then the non-violent, calm and mature like me is the victim. I petition to keep the topic, I'm sick n tired of running away from something great to discuss.

A flame war wouldnt be needed, i agree. The problem is, a war would lead for any agreements or disagreement...

There is NO point discussing the R179/R188.. Do you know how they look or will it look like? When production starts? What fleets will it retiree or replace? If you dont got the answer, then whats the point of talking about it?

Besides, who knows if there will be an R179/R188.. Just because the (MTA) says there will be, doesn't mean it could be the next rolling stock.. The t/a can change the production or anything else at anytime..

Once again, we are still dealing with the R160 bro. So there is nothing we need to talk about, about the IND/BMTs R179 and IRTs R188..

So a proper lock would be nice... Just to help keep any problems like always with the dumb r179/r188.. We can talk about it, when more information comes it.. Facts.

I know, I was just making a point to people who take trains so serious that they start a flame war.

Hardly flaming and I've seen my share of such threads. But after a while threads like these should be consolidated into some sort of fantasy forum or there should be a sticky for threads like this so all talk is continued in those threads.

Here are the only facts that we know about the R179.

Based on the capital plan, it will be an order of 420 cars - 80 for the SIR, 340 for NYCT. Originally this was supposed to replace the R44 fleet (do the math - 340 60' cars replaces 272 75' cars and 80 60' cars replaces 64 75' cars). However with recent changes we know that by the end of the R179 order (if it goes through) all R32s, R42s and R44s will be retired. There is really nothing else to discuss.
