mark1447 Posted January 31, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 31, 2010 Why is it that the R44 SIRTOAs uses the same Propulsion just like the R46? As well as the R40/62. Rather then the R44 NYCT?
Fan Railer Posted February 1, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 1, 2010 Why is it that the R44 SIRTOAs uses the same Propulsion just like the R46? As well as the R40/62. Rather then the R44 NYCT? that's just the way they were ordered. it's kind of like the R160B order: some cars are with alstom propulsion, others with siemens. it was the same with the R44's, of the 352 cars ordered, 64 had GE propulsion, and the rest had westinghouse. R44 5278 Posted February 1, 2010 Share #3 Posted February 1, 2010 Note that the propulsion system doesn't determine the acceleration sound, but rather the traction motors that the propulsion system utilizes. For example, the R32s have GE Propulsion with WH 1447JR motors and sound like R68s.

Correct. "Propulsion" typically only refers to the controller (which is NOT the same thing as the master controller) underneath the car, also known as a Group.
