R32 3348 Posted February 4, 2010 Share #27 Posted February 4, 2010 For number 4, I think the only way to correct the problems at 53rd-Lex would be to build two new side platforms that are for enter only and leave the island platform for exiting only. It should be for rush hour use so that the crowding is spread out than concentrated on a single island platform. A cheaper solution would be to make an escalator at the middle and/or queensbound end of the station (which would require extending the mezzanine). This would evenly distribute crowding both along the train and along the platform, reducing the bottleneck at the west end of the station where all of the escalators are. Why would people want to donate money for this useless total system platform widening project? We are already desperate to save money and you really want to do this, use your own money then to fund money for this rubbish project. ...Which is why you proposed your own stations to be widened. Grand Concourse Posted February 4, 2010 Share #29 Posted February 4, 2010 Definitely Lex/53rd. That way, the can return to 53rd. Nope. Even if the platform is widened, it still would not change how crowded and delayed prone the F would be if it went back to 53rd-Lex. And 63rd-Lex would be wasted for just the V and soon to be an even shorter V train. F at least bypasses the crowded 53rd-Lex station.

dustclee Posted February 4, 2010 Share #32 Posted February 4, 2010 A lot of stations could benefit from a bit of widening. Specifically, those stations where there's barely room for one person to pass through, next to where the stairs and elevators are located, ie. Broadway line's Union Sq platforms.
