SevenEleven Posted February 5, 2010 Share #5 Posted February 5, 2010 Indeed this does mean something!Could this possibly mean that the may go full-length by next week? When the R46s first started to go to 207th, the didn't go full length. I don't see how more xfers can mean full length for the line now.
jimbob60 Posted February 5, 2010 Share #6 Posted February 5, 2010 104 R46's were transferred to Pitkin for A service in 2009 from Jamaica as Jamaica received R160's. The R46's for the A allowed for the retirement of the R40 slants. Jamaica continues to receive R160's so now is able to move out more R46's. This was planned way before the inspection of R44's. The 2nd wave of R46's transfers was originally supposed to allow the C to move to 10 cars and for the R32's on the C and A to start retirement of the R32's. Additional R46's on the A does not mean confirm anything about the status of the R44's. The R44 inspections have not led to a reduction in the number of R44's on the A. I still see just as many R44's on the A now as I saw 2 months ago.

Far Rock Depot Posted February 5, 2010 Share #8 Posted February 5, 2010 As someone just stated, the 46s went to Pitkin, not 207th Street. Isnt Pitkin a satellite yard for 207th?
INDman Posted February 5, 2010 Share #9 Posted February 5, 2010 Isnt Pitkin a satellite yard for 207th? Negative. Pitkin has an inspection shop where it maintains "it's" fleet and 207th Street does th same with "it's" own.
LRG Posted February 5, 2010 Share #10 Posted February 5, 2010 Isnt Pitkin a satellite yard for 207th? No, Pitkin and 207th are their own yards. Rockaway Park, however, is a satellite yard to Pitkin, in a sense.

Thanks for the clarification. now i still wanna know how a 46 transfer shows the C going to full length???
R32 3348 Posted February 5, 2010 Share #12 Posted February 5, 2010 It doesn't necessarily mean that. Since the reefing program was suspended I've heard that the full-length was also suspended because its feasibility depended on the number of cars available after all R32-R42 were retired. Now that the dynamics are changing with the recent R44 issues an R46 out of 207th doesn't necessarily have to mean that anymore.

Far Rock Depot Posted February 5, 2010 Share #15 Posted February 5, 2010 i think i just figured out what this means.... It means that the MTAs plan of moving 46s to 207/Pitkin while Jamaice is receiving 160s....... wait for it....... wait for it..... is still in effect! Mystery solved! mark1447 Posted February 5, 2010 Share #16 Posted February 5, 2010 meh maybe these R46 are for extra service. Or maybe this is to send some R32s to Jamaica possibly for (M)/(V) combo?
Queens Surface Posted February 5, 2010 Share #17 Posted February 5, 2010 Well, the only fleet i could see being used for the (M)/(V) would be R160s or R32s, since the boards have to be adjusted for the R42s.
INDman Posted February 5, 2010 Share #18 Posted February 5, 2010 meh maybe these R46 are for extra service. Or maybe this is to send some R32s to Jamaica possibly for (M)/(V) combo? Why would they send trains around for a service that won't begin (if it even does) for several more months? I doubt that this move really means anything. Grand Concourse Posted February 5, 2010 Share #19 Posted February 5, 2010 and according to a statement made by Gennaro Sansone, NYC Transit Chief Mechanical Officer back in october, "R 32 cars are not going away until after 2010" lol, let's celebrate! But seriously, that is great news the R32s have been given a whole year as a reprieve.
38th Street Yard Posted February 5, 2010 Share #20 Posted February 5, 2010 it's got to be for the 44's that r in bad shape and not for the (M)/(V) line.
R32 3838 Posted February 6, 2010 Author Share #21 Posted February 6, 2010 Okay Let me spill the Beans, That was the 1st 207th st R46 to enter service, To Me that Replaced an R44 set (the 1 that is in the 207th st Barn), I did hear a rumor that they would send More R32's back to Jamaica ((M)/(V) combo) They might have No Choice but to make the 10 cars, But I am not going to say this is happening, We will just wait and see, Because everything has been uphill since they want the R44's to go swimming. It sounds like a train by train basis as far as 44s being decommissioned.
