Railfaner100 Posted February 7, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 7, 2010 Did the line use to have more R160A's in service back in mid 2007 to the end of 2007? I am just asking this question because, i remember seeing the line using more R160A's besides that only one R160A-2 8653-8662. Do you think that those R160A's that the was using were 4 car sets linked into a 5 car set by adding two extra cars to make a ten car train? The R160A-1s were linked into a 5 car set and ran on the N as ten car trains. What you're saying isn't true. The 8313-22 series are four car units, therefore your numbers that you have in your head that ran on the are all mixed up.
Grand Concourse Posted February 7, 2010 Share #9 Posted February 7, 2010 Actually you mean 8313-20, which if those 8 cars were bought under the R143 order, the current 5-car sets would end in either a 5 or a 0 instead of 2 or 7.
38th Street Yard Posted February 7, 2010 Share #10 Posted February 7, 2010 it may have been a school car but that never happen 8313-8652 fleet is 4 car sets and belong to ENY not CIY

And no, 8653-8662 were the only 160A's that were around during the time you described. The rest came in with the 89xx's if I remember correctly. Do you think that those R160A's that the was using were 4 car sets linked into a 5 car set by adding two extra cars to make a ten car train? Now, 8653-8662 were the only A-2 sets running on the line. Those were 10 car sets completely. In 2008, more A-2s were seeing service on the & lines.

R32 3348 Posted February 8, 2010 Share #16 Posted February 8, 2010 Yes. As someone else pointed out you most likely saw 8713-8722. 8313-8320 were delivered to ENY in June of 2007.
Railfaner100 Posted February 8, 2010 Author Share #17 Posted February 8, 2010 When did R160A-2 8653-8662 start running on the line and when was it first delivered to the Coney Island yard?
R32 3348 Posted February 9, 2010 Share #18 Posted February 9, 2010 It was delivered to the system in December of 2005, and probably sent to CI shortly after it was delivered. It went through in-service revenue testing with the R160B set and entered service in late 2006, IIRC.
