Grand Concourse Posted February 10, 2010 Share #26 Posted February 10, 2010 If the last car is at the very edge of the platform, you could even maybe get to a 4th station.

Grand Concourse Posted February 10, 2010 Share #28 Posted February 10, 2010 Yup. Exactly. And maybe even the 2/3 if it switched over to the local tracks at Chambers - that way you could have a train from Park Place to Canal.
fishmech Posted February 10, 2010 Share #29 Posted February 10, 2010 I was thinking of how there's those two BMT stations that are exactly 600 feet apart, and some other stations on both sides that are also relatively close. A 50-car B Division train is 3000 feet long after all.

Grand Concourse Posted February 10, 2010 Share #31 Posted February 10, 2010 Yup. Av H and Av J are kinda close as well. If it wasn't in between two streets [basically sitting in the back of people's backyards], it would be a simple walk.
Rapid Transit TO Posted February 10, 2010 Share #32 Posted February 10, 2010 Most I've seen moved was 20 cars in a yard. Under TA rules, 12 car limit on consists. As for the 50 car 'lay-up equipment adjustment', I wouldn't worry about personally screwing up operating, but more worried that the equipment might present a malfunction such as failing to cut, or even worse, failing to charge.. How ya gonna explain that to the responding RCI or TSS? LOL
Grand Concourse Posted February 10, 2010 Share #33 Posted February 10, 2010 Just hope no one had to get off and push that 50-car train
BroadwayLion Posted February 10, 2010 Share #34 Posted February 10, 2010 And to think that we move 124 car trains at 55 mph all of the time. Often with locomotives at both ends. ROAR
Grand Concourse Posted February 10, 2010 Share #35 Posted February 10, 2010 Heh, well your tracks stretches on for miles and miles. There's not many places in this system a train that long can run without tying up service.

ROAR Ugh, how the hell do you easily locate a broken brake pipe on that monster?
BroadwayLion Posted February 11, 2010 Share #37 Posted February 11, 2010 Ah.... Well, It's not *my* problem, but they stop the train and the C/R climbs down and walks a mile to the back on one side, and then a mile back to the front on the other. An obvious broken hose will be easy to see. How much pressure the line will hold will tell them how far back the break might be. If the pipe is broke under a car, then they will just have to wait for the car-knockers to come out and help them. At -20 degrees this can be a real *****. And of course at -20 brake problems are far more frequent than in the summer. ROAR
