Why NJ Transit serve the Warick(Orange county) NY bus lines 196/197?

Just always wondered about this bus service. Why NJ Transit (NJT)serve the Warick(Orange county) NY bus lines 196/197? I know (NJT) serves the Port Jarvis line in coopertation with (MTA) Metro North but that a train service.

I always thought that Shortline/Coach USA should serve Warick and Greenwood Lake, NY/NJ. Also has anyone 'busfanned' on this line 196/97 before.

Feel free to reply. Thanks:confused:

(NJT) #198 is also part of the #196/197.

As you mention, these three routes provide service into Orange County, N.Y. (Greenwood Lake, Warwick, Mid Orange Correctional) and run to PABT, running express between PABT and U.S. 46 in Totowa.

Maybe an answer lies in that Greenwood Lake, itself, is half in New Jersey and half in New York and that Greenwood Lake, N.Y. is a villiage within the Town Of Warwick.

the 196/197 were originally run by Warwick Transit, which was owned by either inter-city lines or Maplewood Epq co. they had one of the state owned 1976 flexibles.

also the entire Shortline Mountain division was sold by inter city lines to Hudson transit

Thanks guys for info. Still wondering when did (NJT) took over running the Warick/Greenwood Lake line now NJT's 196/197/98 routes?
