EE Broadway Local Posted March 2, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 2, 2010 03/02/2010 08:49 AM Cab Driver Caught Overcharging Passengers By NY1 News A cab driver has lost his license after an investigation revealed he was ripping off riders by charging twice the normal rate. Taxi And Limousine Commision officials say they've pulled Mr. Wasim Khalid Cheema's license. The city began examing his records after a passenger complained the fare increased quickly during a trip from Manhattan to Queens last summer. Officials used GPS Data to determine Mr. Cheema was overcharging by setting his meter to the suburban rate, which is double the rate used within the city limits. The city determined Mr. Cheema had overcharged passengers nearly 600 times in just one month, and that he earned $40,000 more than the average cab driver in six months.
