We've had a major collision and a derailment in the past year, with many deaths. We've also had track workers killed. The Metro Director is "retiring" this year to spend more time with his family. All I can say is that when I went there, the trains ran good, very reliable and clean subway service overall. The Metro does have a history of safety related problems...
