Etoile Posted March 23, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 23, 2010 I was browsing eBay for collector's items from the NYC subway, particularly the original blue Metrocard before they switched to the yellow one. Does anybody know anything about these? I ask because I've seen them for $50-100, but one is going right now for $15.99. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220573284966&ssPageName=ADME:B:WNA:US:1123
Dan Posted March 23, 2010 Share #2 Posted March 23, 2010 I don't know anything about those metro cards or the pricing that is relevant, but that 15.99 is the starting bid. The price is bound to go up unless you are the only one that bids on the item and the clock is ticking!
Etoile Posted March 24, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted March 24, 2010 It didn't sell, which is very strange to me...there must be something fishy about it! It has been reposted though: http://item.ebay.com/220577673463
Joe Posted March 24, 2010 Share #4 Posted March 24, 2010 My first question is: why?
Etoile Posted March 24, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted March 24, 2010 My first question is: why? The same reason people collect anything, I guess. Nostalgia, fun, preservation, rarities...why do some people collect Precious Moments figurines?
Messino Posted March 24, 2010 Share #6 Posted March 24, 2010 It didn't sell, which is very strange to me...there must be something fishy about it! It has been reposted though: http://item.ebay.com/220577673463 Why would there be something fishy? Theres just no demand for a metrocard that doesnt work or have any value for $
Etoile Posted March 24, 2010 Author Share #7 Posted March 24, 2010 Why would there be something fishy? Theres just no demand for a metrocard that doesnt work or have any value for $15 The yellow-on-blue color scheme was the first one, now it's blue-on-yellow. I believe it was around 1997 or so when the blue Metrocards were in use. Most were thrown away, so there is demand among collectors. They often go for far more than $15, which is why I am suspicious of this one.
INDman Posted March 24, 2010 Share #8 Posted March 24, 2010 Well with the econemy being not so hot, many people are not buying things unless they need to. This is something that no one needs to buy.
Etoile Posted March 24, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted March 24, 2010 Well with the econemy being not so hot, many people are not buying things unless they need to. This is something that no one needs to buy. Of course no one NEEDS to buy it. But people sometimes WANT to buy things. Really I was hoping for help from someone who knew about collector's items... Nobody NEEDS anything from the TransitMuseumStore.com website either, but they sell memorabilia too: http://www.transitmuseumstore.com/
