NX Express Posted March 23, 2010 Share #1 Posted March 23, 2010 http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/03/23/eighth-graders-will-just-have-to-wait/ I was looking at NY Times online and this popped up. Subwaytrain, we have a problem. WOW...now they decide to this? Wednesday was supposed to be known as letter day. Thousands of eighth graders are eagerly waiting to find out where they will go attend high school in the fall. But they may have to wait some more. Because of a pending lawsuit from the United Federation of Teachers and the N.A.A.C.P. over plans to close schools, the Department of Education is under a court order to delay sending out the letters. Earlier this month, a justice in State Supreme Court in Manhattan ruled that the city should not make the matches, because the process did give students the options to choose the schools that the department has moved to close. In a memo sent to principals on Tuesday morning, education officials said that essentially, principals and their students could only wait and see.
