INDman Posted April 1, 2010 Share #26 Posted April 1, 2010 The BMT cars in that operation were IRT sized. However, it was Dual Contracts construction, which was built wide enough for BMT sized cars, except for the platforms, of course. And that's why thr line up must be for the middle since there are no platforms. I think a train will get as far as a home ball then a new line up is needed other wise how would work trains and car transfers ge back.
Art Vandelay Posted April 1, 2010 Share #27 Posted April 1, 2010 Yes, it is wide enough. Fun fact: The Lex was built to handle B division cars in EVERY way. EVEN PLATFORM WIDTH. Bridge plates were installed to close the gap. You can still see them in place at 68th St. (They used to be everywhere on the line.)

INDman Posted April 2, 2010 Share #29 Posted April 2, 2010 This is only true north of 42 Street ! Yes, because they are Dual Contract stations.
Art Vandelay Posted April 2, 2010 Share #30 Posted April 2, 2010 South of 42nd Street you're technically on a different line. I was referring to IRT line L(4/5/6 Grand Central-125), not MM(City Hall-GCT).
