Yep

I wonder why its not officially used tho.

technically they are and can still be used...they just stopped makin em therefore they are not as common as the other money (singles, 5s etc).

they wanted to stop making the penny too but as you can see that didnt work out (otherwise we wouldn't be makin fun of ppl pickin up pennies anymore lol)

Ah, but they're not. They're just rarely used.

To add on to error's comment... I believe they must have a certain number of $2 bills in circulation (correct me if I'm wrong). They printed up a new series in 2003 just for that, and they could always do it again.

I collect $2.00 Bills. I don't use them.

When I worked at a bank 3 years ago, we used to get $2 bills all the time, nice crisp bills. I wish I had gotten some. You can get them at most banks but you need to ask for them.

If anything, they should make $2 bills used more often and make $1 increments coins only, no $1 bills any longer.

I got about 20 or 30 Kennedy half-dollars, i'm always told they'll be worth something "someday".

Yeah, fifty cents each. Many casinos are chock full of Kennedy 50¢ pieces since they are used for their slot machines.

It's legal tender, but good luck using it to buy things, some store cashiers may not know what it is.

Same for the JFK Half dollar .. there is also a special edition JFK from the Bicentennial, I think it has Independence Hall on the reverse. You can probably get those too if you ask at the bank.

Now tokens, that's another story. :P

My g'pa used to get a lot of the Kennedy half-dollars playing the slot machines in Atlantic City like over 10 yrs ago [when he last went]. I still have them and probably will not exchange them.

$2 bills, my mom has a few of them - 1976 version [i think]. But those are the only 'recent' $2 she has.

Shame now the casinos [at least the ones I played in Vegas] now has these ticket slips than the actual coins. It takes the fun out of everything :P

Moving even further away from the original topic, but...

You can still get 'subway' tokens, albeit not NYC Subway examples. They use them in the Metro in St Petersburg. You put an [x] roubles bill in a machine on the wall, pull a handle and it spits out however many tokens plus a coin as your change. I can't remember the figures because it's nearly three years since I was there but I still have a pile of St Peterburg tokens.
