Question about MTA Future bus fleet?

R44 CNG

On the link it above it talks about a 40ft LF CNG bus thats gonna replace all CNG buses from the 90s. This bus will have a base contract of 135 buses. It also talks about the next demonstration bus after the NovaBus LFS 0055. A Hydrogen fuel cell bus that will be tested in Spring, 2010.

Does anybody know the model of these buses and/ or have pics? Thanks:tup::cool:

Oh, so we're finally going to try out hydrogen!

I read about a test demo somewhere, but didn't know we would be trying it out any time soon.

Now that all the current NG's are in, isn't this next batch supposed to have some more design changes, or is the addition of CNG it?

I really don't think it makes sense to move those NF C40lfs around. JG is the only place those buses have been and they have the parts for those buses. Also the C40lfs are also getting up there in age.

I would think they would be outright replaced [case by case basis]. JG could always move the OG O7 CNGs to the other depots as well.

Arent all the CNG O5's older by a yr or two to the NF CNG's...I would think the MTA want to get rid of all O5's before the NF's....Unless the O5's are holding up better to the NF's

I know CP really needs to scrap some of those 98 and 99' series O5's some them sound bad as hell like their on deaths door step...I dont know if that's because they were PBL's and we know the type of maintaince the PBL's gave to their buses....

The PBL's kept buses on the road on a shoestring budget throughout the years, need I mention that it was us who kept the Grummans on the road in the 80's while the MTA pulled them out of service because they deemed them to be too high maintenance.

Here's when they came in...

1997 (5.501 CNG): 708

1998 (5.501 CNG): 709-750, 7214-7273, 8568-8581, 9932-9999

1998 (C40LF): 800-801

1999 (5.501 CNG): 751, 7274-7285, 9827-9834, 9836-9867, 9869-9931

1999 (C40LF): 802-856

2000 (C40LF): 857-989

As you can see, they're almost the same age so its somewhat of a toss-up on which is gonna go 1st

You forgot the JG 500 and 600 series O5s which i think are the oldest CNGs and are the first up for scrapping...

Not only high maintenance also because the Grumman A-frame buses begin to suffer quality build issues with frame cracking.I only heard of this problem with (NYCT) versions.

Oh yeah, those (317, 581-610) came out in 1994-1995 and it was before Orion had their current name. Back then it was called Bus Industries of America.
