Because there is no need to. Those R62As are most likely not going anywhere within the next 10 years.

But there's still 10+ years left and the MTA is broke. So I don't think there's going to be a rush to upgrade that building. Plus it goes up and down the same line with no deviations. R142/As would be A WASTE on the .

The should be proud to have the same fleet for over 20 and likely to have R62A's till retirement. The doesn't have to worry about the trains crossing in front of them except the late nights which isn't a biggy.

Livonia yard stores NTT equipment. It's not a maintenance yard for NTT.Each line maintains it's own equipment so Livonia is only equipped to handle line equipment which consists of Kawasaki R62 cars only. We've had NTT equipment break down in Brooklyn and moved to Livonia yard to clear up the road. After the rush hour they try to get a TSS and/or a T/O to take it back to the Bronx. If the NTT can't be moved easily they will send an emergency vehicle from the Bronx with personnel from the home barn, and replacement parts if needed, to get the train back to it's home barn. I've seen trains stored for over 24 hours in Livonia yard waiting for help to arrive with the proper tools and parts.

That's what I though...... Livonia isn't able to maintain or repair NTT R142A's like Jerome, East 180th and 239th Yards.

Jerome yard is just storage under a building. I am not sure where those trains are maintained though. I'm not sure if Concourse yard maintains them or if the line's trains are maintained elsewhere like at Westchester, 180th, or 207th.

That yard does have its own maintainance barn/shop. It's small; but it is there.

I believe that Concourse Yard only has R68 equipment available in the little maintenance shop. I've never seen one R142/A go inside that shop.

(3)line doesn't need any R142/A cars now, R62s are still good.

I did catch a R142A on the 3 once....although it was during a late night GO that had the 4 going up the 2 line to Chambers St.Coming back down it was signed as a 3.Talk about epic!
