Late nights, why does the skip 53d and 45th Streets northbound only and not both directions - is it because of how the terminates at 36th Street and reverses to head back to Bay Ridge-95th Street?

Pretty much so...it's fumigated at 36th Street and relays north of the station. It could run local heading up but I guess they didn't want service to be interfered with, even if at night.

Sometimes, during some G.O.'s the does run local from 59th to 36th.

Terminating trains usually don't get taken to the relay track immediately, so to prevent delays, the ®s run express to 36 Street and terminate on the express track so any other train can proceed without hassle. If the were to run local to 36 Street, both the and would be delayed (since they run local).

service is already interfered with (the x-over south of 59 Street). I think you mean service.
