judycwrite Posted February 19, 2008 Share #1 Posted February 19, 2008 Are most of you guys using the LIRR to commute to work? Would you consider using it for vacations? Does the issue of "LIRR riders behaving badly" dissuade you from traveling for fun? Whaddya think?B)
Pablo M 201 Posted February 19, 2008 Share #2 Posted February 19, 2008 LIRR does head to pretty good getaway spots so I would do it. Thats if I just want a quick, simple getaway trip. And one that I don't have to worry about driving somewhere.
Harry Posted February 20, 2008 Share #3 Posted February 20, 2008 I love to read the "Behaving badly" posts. I must have spent almost two hours going through them all. As I drive now I do not use the LIRR like I used to when I was younger.
BMT4Life Posted February 20, 2008 Share #4 Posted February 20, 2008 I've also read through the LIRR riders behaving badly and I found it quite amusing. I do believe many of those posters are exaggerating a bit. They have their share of bad riders that for sure.
judycwrite Posted February 20, 2008 Author Share #5 Posted February 20, 2008 So you guys wouldn't use the LIRR for vacation travel? How come?
BMT4Life Posted February 20, 2008 Share #6 Posted February 20, 2008 So you guys wouldn't use the LIRR for vacation travel? How come? I've never vacationed out on Long Island. If we were to, we would most likely drive than ride the LIRR.
Robert Bosco Posted February 20, 2008 Share #7 Posted February 20, 2008 I only go out to the Island for vacations. And I'll tell ya, the best part of my trip is the initial ride out there. I usually go far out in Suffolk county, so I end up taking the double-decker diesels...so much fun. The LIRR offers a fast and smooth ride, espeically if you get an M7 car...very comfortable. judycwrite Posted February 20, 2008 Author Share #8 Posted February 20, 2008 Cool! I used to use the railroad all the time then slacked off to get "more freedom" driving. But with traffic jams, and gas prices, forget that!!! It adds so much anxiety and frustration to my vacation I don't think "freedom" in this case is worth it. Yeah, there is something relaxing about riding the rails and zipping by all those lines of cars wasting gas as I pass them by. It's weird how often I have the car all to myself!! INDman Posted February 20, 2008 Share #9 Posted February 20, 2008 As a little kid my parents would take me on the LIRR from Flatbush to Patchogue. From there we would take a ferry to Davis Park on Fire Island. We only did this when one parent was already there and took the car or when one had to go to work on Monday during the summer. As a little kid, I loved this so much.
judycwrite Posted February 21, 2008 Author Share #10 Posted February 21, 2008 See? That's it! I remember taking the train to the beach. My favorite memory is leaving the hot city and feeling like a tightly crumpled piece of tin foil. Then as I saw less and less buildings and more trees I relaxed becoming a shiny sheet of bright aluminum ready to reflect all the sun and be cooled by ocean breezes. I just love it! sebbieprops Posted February 25, 2008 Share #11 Posted February 25, 2008 I've actually never been on it before, although I'd like to, at some time.
